Matt Johnston

Matt has spent 25 years practicing Cybersecurity across numerous Fortune level enterprises and for the top companies in the tech industry and world. His professional career started within the Defense Industrial Base working for a US Defense Contractor that delivered cybersecurity services to organizations inside and outside of government. In this time he also supported the US Intelligence Community through adversary research and information sharing where he specialized in nation state adversaries and developing countermeasures and threat-focused operations toward effective defense. Following these years he worked in Cybersecurity leadership roles for a major software company in the financial services sector, and later for two of the top names in the Cybersecurity industry itself along with a Cybersecurity start-up in it’s formative years.

As well as founding Practive Security, Matt is the lead consultant who is behind all the services we provide. Anything you receive from Practive will be sourced from his experience and standards, to make sure you receive the best that we can offer.

Matt has worked as a Security Analyst and Incident Responder; a Security Engineer responsible for technology deployments, maintenance, and integrations; a Security Strategist responsible for the capabilities and maturity of cybersecurity programs at large enterprises, as an Operations Manager, has led Threat Intelligence practices that focus on researching and understanding the adversary, and as a Manager of a Security Product team.

Through all this time, he has seen what works well in Cybersecurity because he has researched the problems, implemented the solutions, and managed the outcomes they produce.
